Stupid Things I'm Doing to My BMW K1600B (With Good Reason)
The black Grand America gets a cockpit makeover: the glare that started it, a DIY paint attempt and professionally powder-coated replacement parts.
My BMW K1600B Grand America is getting the blackout treatment. After 4,200 miles of windscreen reflections flashing in my eyes, I've finally got a good excuse to keep messing with it.
I tried painting the silver cockpit parts myself. The orange peel suggests I should stick to riding motorcycles.
In this episode, I unbox the replacement parts powder coated by Specialty Coatings in Phoenix, including the bolts, and show the finish I wanted alongside my less-than-successful Rust-Oleum effort. The aim is to reduce those distracting reflections and bring the cockpit closer to the bike's black finish.
Then, naturally, the plan grows: more trim to match the Option 719 paint, possibly the floorboards, and leaving the forged wheels to provide the sparkle. Apparently I can't leave well enough alone.
This is the parts reveal and plan for my 2025 BMW K 1600 B Grand America. The new parts aren't installed or road-tested in this episode. I'll share an update when it's done.
A big shout-out to Flynn at Kissel Motorsports in Pennsylvania for sourcing the parts for my silly little project. Thanks for helping me turn one small annoyance into another excuse to tinker with the BMW!
